What is Total Productive Maintenance?

Total Productivity Maintenance (TPM) is a maintenance program which involves a newly defined concept for maintaining machinery and equipments. This maintenance philosophy designed to integrate equipment maintenance into the manufacturing process. The goal of any TPM program is to eliminate losses tied to equipment maintenance or, in other words, keep equipment producing only good product, as fast as possible with no unplanned downtime.

Numerous companies have benefits from applying this technique in their manufacturing environment and the results are astounding. According to Marshall Institute, organization could conservatively expect reduction of maintenance cost of 25 - 30% and manufacturing cost of 20 - 25% after the implementation of TPM for over five years. And there are much more success stories out there which make TPM such a popular demand in the manufacturing industry.
